In 1963, in preparation for recording the
Kingtones 3rd record "Twins," a practice was called to learn the song.
The band gathered in the basement of Phil Roberts's house. They started
with several familiar songs to warm up Pete Mervenne's vocal cords.
Track 6 on this CD is Phil singing "Twins" to the group so they could
learn the song.
Phil had a cheap reel to reel tape recorder with a cheap microphone and
decided to record the session. Needless to say, the quality of the
recordings is not very good. On the bright side, this CD made from that
reel to reel tape, is one of the only recordings ever made, of Pete
Mervenne & the Kingtones doing top 40 tunes, with this much vocal
clarity.
